Coming in multiple forms, bar shot is a type of specialized cannon shot where two projectiles are connected by a solid rod. Another variant is the expanding or sliding bar shot where the two projectiles could be compressed in storage and when loaded, then expand out when fired. These types of shot were primarily used to target ships rigging. This would slow the ship allowing them to be captured or outrun.
