Description
A lead musket ball recovered from one of the 1622 Tierra Firme galleons. The round shot has a maximum diameter of 21 millimeters – the appropriate size for use with a musket, not a smaller arquebus, though both were similarly-designed matchlock firearms. The musket ball shows casting seams and a bump from a clipped sprue. It also has a thin flange; a remnant of lead that seeped through the crack where the two parts of the shot mold came together.
