Description
The rim of an earthenware olive jar (botija) from the 1622 galleon Nuestra Señora de Atocha. The mouth is closed with a wooden plug and sealed with pitch. When intact, the jar most likely carried 6 to 8 gallons of wine. A mark of unknown significance is stamped into the rim.
